Australia's migration program is more effectively meeting the needs of employers with a 60 per cent increase in the number of employer-sponsored skilled migrants to Australia in 2008-09 compared with the previous year, according to Australian Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans.
Overseas workers who were sponsored by employers comprised 33 per cent of the 2008-09 skill stream compared to 22 per cent in 2007-08 and 17 per cent in 2006-07.
The total migration program outcome for 2008-09 was 171 318 places. The skill stream outcome of 114 777 places accounted for 67 per cent of the total migration program.
Although the Australian government reduced planning levels for the permanent skilled migrant intake in the overall 2009-10 migration program to 108 100 places, it recognizes the need of Australian employers still experiencing difficulty in finding skilled shortages such as healthcare, accountancy, computing professionals and engineering.
The 2008-09 family stream also made a significant contribution to Australia's society, with a total outcome of 56 366 places or 33 per cent of the total migration program.
Of these, almost 75 per cent were the spouses, fiancés or interdependent partners of Australian citizens and permanent residents.
PALMS International Migration Services Inc. has invited Ms. Lita Mahle, an experienced Australian Registered Migration Agent to their Free Immigration Seminar to be held at SM MEGAMALL on 22 November 2009 from 10.00 to 3.00 pm.
She will speak on different types of visa such as Family, Student, Business, Skilled visa including Subclass 457 visa, a very popular visa commonly used by Australian employers to hire overseas workers. She will also discuss the procedures and processes involved. Attendance at this free seminar will benefit not only the skilled applicants but also employment agencies deploying overseas workers to Australian companies.
Ms. Mahle acknowledges the increase of Filipino students studying in Australia. This is another type of visa which is becoming very popular to Filipinos as this type of visa gives them an opportunity to apply for permanent residence in Australia after two years completion of their study . Not knowing the requirements of this visa leading to permanent residency is risky due to the high cost involved in international study. Attendance at this free seminar will benefit not only the prospective international students but also the educational institutions recruiting students for Australia.
Nurses are in short supply in Australian hospitals and nursing institutions. Due to shortage of nurses in Australia, the Department of Immigration gives priority to this occupation for visa processing. Ms. Mahle will discuss the different types of visa available for Registered Nurses.
Attendance at this free seminar will not only benefit the nurses but also the employment agencies deploying nurses to Australian hospitals and nursing institutions.
There will be other dates for Free Orientations for skilled workers, employment agencies, educational institutions, nurses, students and other skilled professionals.
